Ogun State Police Arrest 10 Suspected Cultists in Sagamu
Anti-Cultists Unit Apprehend 10 Suspected Cultists in Ogun State

 

Ten suspected members of the Eiye cult group, who were believed to be behind the spate of killings in Sagamu, a town in Ogun State, have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command. The suspects were apprehended during a meeting to strategize on a fresh attack against rival groups in Sagamu, at Odogbolu, last Saturday by operatives of the Anti-Cultists unit.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, upon receiving the information, the anti-cultist team mobilized and swiftly moved to the area. However, on sighting the policemen, the hoodlums attacked them with dangerous weapons. Nonetheless, they were subdued by the policemen, who went ahead to apprehend ten amongst the cultists.

During the operation, the second in command of the unit, SP Morakinyo Adejumo, was seriously injured and has been hospitalized. He is currently responding to treatment.

The suspects who were apprehended are Adekoya Adesina, Ayinde Olumide, Adebayo Jamiu, Ajayi Temitope, Taiwo Olatunji, Oladapo Ayeye, Johnson Adeyemi, Tunde Banjo, Gbenga Morufu, and Tunde Adenuga. In addition to their arrest, the police also recovered eight live cartridges and a large quantity of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp from them.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olanrewaju Oladimeji, has ordered a massive manhunt for the remaining members of the group. He has vowed to make the state unconducive for cultists and other criminals. The police command has urged residents of Ogun State to provide useful information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects still at large and reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents in the state.
