Ogun State First Lady Sponsors Chained Boy’s Education

The wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, has taken up the sponsorship of nine-year-old Korede Taiwo, the boy who was allegedly chained by his father for over a month.

Taiwo was chained by his father, Francis Taiwo, a pastor, and was rescued by policemen and operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. Francis, who is pastor of the Celestial Church of Christ, Key of Joy, in the Ajibawo area, had accused the boy of habitual stealing, saying his son needed deliverance. The father was thereafter arrested.

The sponsorship, it was gathered, would be from primary school to the university level.

The Director of Child Development Services, Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mr. Kehinde Egbeolowo, on Thursday in Abeokuta said the governor’s wife had taken up the sponsorship of Korede’s education from primary school to the university level.

Egbeolowo said, “Korede has been enrolled as a nursery one pupil in a private school with boarding facilities in the state.”

He said the maltreatment meted out to Taiwo attracted Mrs. Amosun’s attention.
