Nathaniel Glory Onome, a Student of the Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education of the University, shone like a million stars as she was recently honoured by the Ogun State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations for doing Nigeria proud at different sporting fiestas.
Nathaniel, who was bestowed with “Unsung Heroes Award” at the 2017 Ogun NIPR Colloquium, held in Abeokuta, was recognized as a result of series of international outings she has participated and the image it has earned Ogun State in particular and Nigeria at large. The recent was her outstanding performance at the 2017 World Athletics Championship in London.
According to the Chairman of the Ogun State Chapter of the NIPR, Mr. Tope Adaramola, Nigerian government needs to be alive to its responsibility by recognising merit and outstanding performance among its citizenry, doing this will make Nigerians to be more patriotic.
“This young lady has written Nigeria’s name on the world map of athletics and she needed to be encouraged to be able to do more. That’s why we, at NIPR Ogun Chapter take it as a responsibility, to honour people whom our government don’t recognize and that’s why we tag it ‘Unsung Heroes Award’ .
Other dignitaries at the event include the Governor of Ogun State, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun CON, FCA represented by the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Communication, Mrs. ‘Seyi Enitan-Olubode; DG, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Mr. Muda Yusuf; former Defence Spokesperson, Gen. Chris Olukolade; Towulade of Akinale, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye; General Manager, NTA Abeokuta, Mrs. Funmi Wakama; Vice Chancellor of TASUED, Prof.Oluyemisi Obilade represented by the Chairman of TASUED Sports Council, Prof. Dupe Banjo; Director TASUED Sports Council, Mr. Foluwaso Onagoruwa and other government functionaries from across the country.
Special recognition was also given to her coach, Mr. Oluwaseun Jayesinmi who is also a member of staff of the University.
