APC Accuses PDP Candidate of Dodging Law, Demands Accountability

In a strong-worded statement, the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) urged the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Ladi Adebutu, to confront the criminal charges leveled against him by the Federal Government. The APC criticized Adebutu for continuously evading the law and resorting to repetitive excuses.

The call came in response to a press conference held by the State Chairman of the PDP, Sikirulai Ogundele, in the state capital of Abeokuta. Tunde Oladunjoye, the Publicity Secretary of the APC, signed the statement, asserting that the PDP had nothing new to offer and had resorted to baseless allegations and contradictory claims.

Oladunjoye stated, “We have thoroughly examined their weak press statement and found nothing more than tired excuses, false assertions, and contradictions from a defeated candidate who has been eluding the law since being invited by the Police.”

The APC further criticized the PDP, saying, “Even the media must be fatigued by the repetitive noise of these losers. This is a party whose candidate has ignored Police invitations, fled the country, and attempted to halt his trial, now shamelessly making false accusations and preemptively attempting to discredit the Police. Their desperate press conference comes after the court has dismissed their baseless claims.”

“When the Police invited the suspect, he fled abroad and claimed he was going for medical treatment, with his return contingent on his doctor’s advice. Later, he publicly declared that his life was in danger, forcing him to flee to an undisclosed location.”

“After a few weeks, he approached the court, filing a motion to prevent the Police from ‘inviting,’ ‘interviewing,’ or ‘detaining’ him regarding allegations of vote-buying. These allegations involve the printing and distribution of 200,000 Verve ATM cards preloaded with N10,000 credit, totaling N2 billion. He also sought to delay the trial until after the conclusion of his petition at the Tribunal in Abeokuta.”

“In the midst of his web of lies and contradictions, Adebutu even committed perjury under oath and now faces the consequences. Despite his incessant boasts that his father’s money can accomplish anything, this recent meaningless press conference is perhaps an indication that money has failed him in buying justice.”

The APC advised the Ogun State PDP and its defeated governorship candidate to cease wasting their time on a lost battle. Instead, they were urged to focus their efforts and resources on defending themselves against the serious criminal charges looming over their heads, to which many of their co-conspirators have already confessed.

As the legal battle continues, the political landscape in Ogun State remains tense, with all eyes on the unfolding events surrounding Ladi Adebutu and the PDP.
