The governor gave the order during the weekly executive council meeting, according to a statement signed by Crusoe Osagie, his special adviser on media projects, on Wednesday.

The statement also revealed that all special assistants and senior special assistants should be relieved of their appointments. The governor thanked members of the council for their service to the government and the people of the state.

“The governor said that beginning from today, all Special Assistants and Senior Special Assistants have been relieved of their appointments,” the statement read in part.

The reason for the dissolution was not disclosed in the statement, leaving many people to speculate. However, insiders suggest that the move may be part of the governor’s plan to restructure and revamp his cabinet.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time Governor Obaseki has taken such a step. In 2020, he dissolved his cabinet, citing the need to consolidate the gains of his administration and to focus on delivering good governance to the people of the state.

The dissolution of the state executive council has generated mixed reactions from residents of the state, with some expressing concerns about the impact it may have on governance, while others believe it is a step in the right direction.

Meanwhile, the governor has assured the people of the state that his government remains committed to delivering dividends of democracy to them and will continue to work towards achieving this goal.
