Akpabio, who represents Akwa Ibom north-west, secured his position after receiving 63 votes, while his opponent, Yari, managed to garner 46 votes.

During his acceptance speech on Tuesday, Akpabio emphasized that what truly matters is the positive transformation of Nigerian lives through the “Renewed Hope” agenda set forth by President Bola Tinubu.

He conveyed his assurance to President Tinubu that the 10th Senate would wholeheartedly work towards the success of his government.

Acknowledging the challenges currently faced by the country, the Senate President stated, “The country is at a crossroads, we are struggling with a lot of difficulties, we just inherited an economy that requires renewal, revitalization.”

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for instilling hope in Nigerians through their initial actions.

“I want to thank President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for the steps they have taken so far which have given a lot of Nigerians hope.

“I want to assure Mr. President, no matter what name the senate is called, we are here to do national duties. This senate is about Nigeria and Nigerians, so long as the policies that come to this chamber contain the empowerment and upliftment of Nigerians, we shall dwell and deliberate and have robust public hearings.

“We will work closely with the executives of government while maintaining the normal independence of the legislature.

Akpabio’s election as Senate President has drawn attention due to his perceived role in shaping the legislative agenda and supporting President Tinubu’s vision for the country.

With his promises of commitment and cooperation, Nigerians eagerly anticipate the potential outcomes and impact of the 10th Senate’s actions under his leadership.
