The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, National Science Quiz, a Kaduna State contender of the North-West zone held in Kano emerged as this year’s winner.

Abdulrahman Muhammad, a Senior Secondary School three student of the Alhudahuda College, Zaria, represented Kaduna State at the final lap of the competition on Wednesday, beating six others from the North-Western states.

In his remarks at the close of the event, Garba Muhammad, the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, of the NNPC, who was represented by Ismaila Salihu, Manager, Administration, Budget, Planning, and Monitoring, said the NNPC was committed to encouraging science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education through organizing such competition.

He further called on the state ministries of education to build the skills of the Nigerian youths by encouraging and nurturing them through cooperating with stakeholders like the NNPC.

“It is for this reason that the NNPC’s commitment to encouraging science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education (STEM education), which is the focus of the NNPC National Science Quiz Competition has become stronger than ever.

“I invite all teachers, JETS coordinators, officials of the state ministries of education and parents here today to join the NNPC in this journey to create the Nigeria of our dreams by nurturing the mind and building the skills of the nation’s youth.”

The contest took place among seven students from the seven states of the North-West zone in Kano. The seven students took home packages of souvenirs with N100,000 each for participating.

Students from 774 local government areas of Nigeria participated across the country from all the zones. 28 males and nine female students will cross the hurdles on the road to the NNPC Towers in Abuja for the finals.
