Nnamdi Kanu Reaffirms Uncompromising Stand for Biafra's Independence
Biafra Struggle Intensifies as Nnamdi Kanu Remains Resolute in Detention

In a steadfast show of determination, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the realization of Biafra. Despite being held in custody by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja since his arrest in Kenya in 2021, Kanu declared that the pursuit of self-determination was non-negotiable. This message was conveyed via a tweet shared by his legal counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, on Tuesday.

Addressing the people of Biafra and the entire IPOB community, Kanu expressed profound gratitude for their unwavering support during his continued illegal detention. He assured them that the struggle for self-determination would persist until it reaches its logical conclusion.

The Federal Government’s appeal before the Supreme Court, which encapsulates its position on the Biafran leader, highlights the significance of the ongoing legal battle. Kanu faces charges of treasonable felony, managing an unlawful society, and publication of defamatory matter, among others.

The call for Kanu’s release has garnered momentum, with civil rights advocacy group Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) recently appealing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to facilitate the leader’s freedom as a means of promoting national reconciliation.

Adding his voice to the chorus, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah urged President Tinubu to grant Nnamdi Kanu his freedom and subsequently hand him over to any of the South-East governors. Governor Mbah believes that Kanu’s release would expedite the much-needed healing process in Nigeria and serve as a symbolic gesture of extending brotherly fellowship to Ndigbo.

In a related development, Governor Mbah also announced that there would be no further ‘sit-at-home’ orders in Enugu State. These orders were initially instituted by the IPOB group to protest Kanu’s detention. The decision to discontinue the sit-at-home directive reflects the governor’s commitment to restoring normalcy and promoting unity among the residents of Enugu State.

As the legal proceedings continue and calls for Kanu’s release grow stronger, the nation waits with bated breath to witness the unfolding of this crucial chapter in Nigeria’s history. The resilience of Nnamdi Kanu and the determination of IPOB remain undeterred, underscoring the depth of the Biafra struggle.
