An unnamed Nigerian woman in Dubai has sentenced to two years in prison for robbing an Arab tourist.
According to a report from Khaleej Times, the sentencing took place on Monday in a trial that began in late July.
The lady was accused of illegal imprisonment and issuing threats to kill or inflict harm on others and has 15 days to make an appeal.
The report reveals that the 23-year-old Nigerian woman who was on a visit visa had set up a fake social media account and deceived the victim into a hotel apartment.
With the help of accomplices (another woman and three men), the accused assaulted the man, tied him up, and robbed him of money and his mobile phone.
The incident which took place back in February was reported at the Bur Dubai police station. The Dubai Court of First Instance found the defendant guilty of robbery, among the aforementioned charges. She will be deported upon the completion of her jail term.
The 32-year-old tourist told investigators that the woman and her group beat him up, dealing him blows all over his body as they locked him up in the apartment.
“They robbed me of Dh500 and my smartphone while assaulting and threatening to harm me. They deprived me of my freedom for 40 minutes”, he said.
