The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has mandated a re-election in nine polling units at Ganaja Village in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State due to logistic problems that prevented elections from taking place in these areas during the presidential and National Assembly elections held on Saturday.
Haliru Haruna Sule, the Head of Voters Education and Publicity at the INEC headquarters in Lokoja, disclosed that election materials and officials have been redeployed to the area for the election, which is now scheduled to hold on Sunday, February 26.
Dr Hale Longpet, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), has approved the election to hold on Sunday in order to ensure that all voters exercise their franchise in this important election.
Sule emphasized the importance of ensuring that everyone is able to participate in the electoral process, and called on the people of Ganaja Village to turn out en-masse and vote in the election.
The INEC official expressed regret for the logistical problems that resulted in the postponement of elections in those areas, and assured that the Commission has taken steps to ensure that the re-election process will be smooth and transparent.
