In a recent press release, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has categorically denied the authenticity of a viral memo that claimed the force had withdrawn police aides from politicians. The NPF addressed the issue, asserting that the memo in question is fraudulent and did not originate from the NPF or any of its formations.
The circulating memo, allegedly originating from MOPOL 45 FHQ ABJ, issued an order for the removal of police aides assigned to specific top politicians and their relatives. However, the NPF clarified that the signal deviated from its established telegraphic message structure and standards. Notably, the irregularity lay in the signature, as the memo bore the signature of a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), whereas signals of this nature are typically signed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) who heads such formations.
Taking swift action upon discovering the fraudulent memo, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to identify the source responsible for its creation and dissemination. The IGP assures the public that appropriate measures will be taken against those found responsible for this misleading information.
The NPF’s clarification brings relief to politicians and their relatives who may have been anxious about the withdrawal of their police escorts, as indicated in the false memo. The police force remains steadfast in its commitment to transparency and upholding its communication standards, ensuring the dissemination of accurate information to the public.
