The Nigerian government has expressed concerns over the safety of its citizens in Sudan, who are currently caught up in the conflict-ridden region. The government has been trying to evacuate Nigerian students and other citizens who have indicated a willingness to return home.

However, due to the tense situation in Sudan, the government has deemed it too risky to conduct any flights at this point in time.

The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, confirmed that the Nigerian Mission in Sudan and the National Emergency Management Agency have put in place arrangements for the evacuation of Nigerian citizens stranded in the country.

However, the recent burning of aircraft at the airport in Sudan has made it impossible for any flights to take off or land.

Dabiri-Erewa has appealed to the fighting parties in Sudan to consider the Juba Peace Agreement, which was put in place by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, as a fundamental mechanism for restoring peace and tranquillity in the region.

She also highlighted the efforts being made by humanitarian groups to provide essential supplies like food, water, and medical aid to those in need.

In conclusion, the Nigerian government is closely monitoring the situation in Sudan and is working with international bodies to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens. The government encourages Nigerians in Sudan to remain calm and take all necessary precautions to stay safe during this difficult time.
