Newly Sworn-in SGF George Akume Vows Not to Disappoint Nigerians
SGF George Akume Set to Follow President Tinubu’s Footsteps, Aims for Success

George Akume, the newly sworn-in Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF), has expressed his commitment to serving Nigerians to the best of his abilities, pledging not to disappoint the nation. In a press conference held at the State House following his inauguration by President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, Akume emphasized the significance of his selection for such a prestigious position among over 200 million Nigerians.

Acknowledging the weight of the responsibility bestowed upon him, Akume affirmed, “It is a challenge to serve in line with the oath I have taken today. I assure Nigerians I will do my best, I will not disappoint the President, I will not disappoint this country, and I will not disappoint my party.” He expressed his belief that through fulfilling his responsibilities, the Nigerian people would find fulfillment in their own interests, assuring that under his guidance, they would reap the dividends of democracy. Akume attributed his confidence to his strong conviction and trust in the guidance of Almighty God.

A prominent figure in the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akume, who had previously served as the governor of Benue State, pledged to follow the footsteps of President Tinubu. He described Tinubu as a doer who has always been actively involved in the progress of the nation, urging others to emulate his example. “He has never been in the gallery, which is always full of critics. He has always been in the arena, where the doers are. He is a doer, so we have to tag along. We must never afford to fail,” Akume stated.

Meanwhile, Boss Mustapha, the immediate past SGF, addressed his successor, acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead. Mustapha highlighted the critical role of the SGF in coordinating government activities and formulating policies, programs, and projects. Recognizing the enormity of the position, he emphasized that Akume would oversee multiple ministries through the supervision of six Permanent Secretaries. However, Mustapha expressed confidence in Akume’s capability, noting that he had been adequately prepared and groomed for the role. He expressed his belief that Akume would take the office to even greater heights than his predecessor had.

As George Akume assumes his new role as the SGF, Nigerians are hopeful that he will deliver on his promises and steer the government towards progress and effective governance.
