"My Life Got Better After Mohbad’s Death," Late Singer’s Father Reveals

Joseph Aloba, the father of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has opened up about how his life has improved since his son’s tragic passing. In an interview with media personality Akin Abolade, also known as Mrlilgaga, Aloba attributed his newfound blessings to Mohbad’s spirit and divine intervention.

“Let me just say yes, my life got better after Mohbad’s death because he is my friend,” Aloba said. “He had plans to do many things for me, but they didn’t allow him to. After his death, it was the spirit of Mohbad and God combined that began to send people to assist me. Even the car and everything I have now, it was people that gave them to me. It is beyond ordinary.”

Aloba revealed that his current assets, including a new block industry, a truck, and a Toyota Highlander, were gifts from compassionate Nigerians touched by his son’s death.

Family Tensions and Unfulfilled Promises

While expressing gratitude for the support he has received, Aloba shared frustrations regarding Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, and her family, accusing them of controlling his late son’s properties.

“They did a lot concerning that boy. All his landed property is in their possession. Even the land he bought for me to build a church—blocks we molded on it were later used to bury him,” he stated.

Aloba also recounted how, two weeks before Mohbad’s death, his son had shown him a house he intended to buy after completing his tour. According to Aloba, the singer had already paid for the house in full.

Life Before and After Mohbad’s Fame

Aloba described how Mohbad influenced his life, even as a child. After money from Mohbad’s naming ceremony was stolen, Aloba said he turned to music, with Mohbad becoming his backup singer as early as one year old.

Now, Aloba balances carpentry, singing, and his role as a pastor, although he currently does not have a church—a promise Mohbad had made to fulfill before his untimely death. Aloba has released nine tracks since the singer’s passing.

Remembering Mohbad

Mohbad died on September 11, 2023, at the age of 26. His death sparked widespread grief and controversy, with investigations pointing to questionable circumstances.

The Lagos State Police Command arrested a nurse on September 19, 2023, who had reportedly administered a tetanus vaccine to the singer. The nurse was later found to be unlicensed.
