Speaking at the Forbes Under 30 summit in Botswana on Monday, Davido disclosed that he and his father often get into arguments about how he spends his money.

Adedeji Adeleke, who is a renowned business mogul, typically advises him on investments and savings and does not approve of his son’s extravagance on materialistic things.

According to the “OBO crooner”, show business is different from a normal person’s life who is solely engaged in business. He explained that his father occasionally does not understand how the industry works, and may not agree with how he spends his money.

Davido recounted an instance when he was in Italy, and his father saw a headline reading “Davido buys $300,000 watch.” Adedeji expressed his displeasure with such an expense, but Davido argued that they were using it to inspire people, adding that show business is still a form of business.

Despite the disagreements, the artist acknowledges that his father has played a crucial role in his career. He noted that Adedeji’s advice has often saved him from making expensive mistakes.

“For example, I wanted to rent a penthouse. He advised me, ‘You are wasting money by spending on that (rent). Buy it and use it when you are around.’ Little advice here and there,” Davido said.

The artist also shared that it took a while for his father to appreciate his music, but he has now fully accepted it.
