Meet The African Winners At The BET Awards 2020

At the just concluded BET Awards 2020, three Africans stood tall as they emerged winners at the event.

Those who feel African acts aren’t doing enough on the international music scene are now being forced to eat their words as the recognition being given to them is putting the continent on the limelight.

First off, Wizkid’s collaboration with music titan Beyonce on the Brown Skin Girl album nabbed him a win for the BET HER Award; a well-deserved accomplishment as the Nigerian is among those pushing Afrobeat outside the boundaries of Africa.

Another African that made us proud at the event is the ‘African Giant’ himself, Burna Boy.

Since the release of his African Giant last year, Bruna has been an unstoppable force, steadily maintaining a revered spot on the limelight as one of Nigeria’s most sought-after artists.

In a category that featured other music talents like Innoss’B (Congo), Sho Madjozi (South Africa), Dave (U.K.), Stormzy (U.K.), Ninho (France), and S.Pri Noir (France), Burna Boy reigned supreme, clinching the award for Best International Act.

And the last but not the least, Zimbabwean sensation Sha Sha bagged her first international accolade as the Viewers Choice Best New International Act at the ceremony.

The fast-rising star was up against the likes of Rema (Nigeria), Celeste (U.K.), Young T & Bugsey (U.K.), Hatik (France), and Stacy (France), and she beat them all for the coveted prize.

With their recent accolades, the above-named winners from Africa are a testament that the continent has captured the attention of the rest of the world, and it’s only the beginning of a future wrought with numerous musical accomplishments.

Congratulations to these musical behemoths and long may they reign!
