On Thursday, a 43-year-old man named Bakare Joseph was remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre by an Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Olateru-Olagbegi, declined to take the plea of the defendant and directed the case file to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further guidance.
The case has been adjourned until March 2 while awaiting the DPP’s advice.
According to the Prosecution Counsel, Mrs. Olawunmi Osibanjo, the defendant committed the crime on January 23, at No. 7 Igbo Oluwo Street in Ikorodu. Osibanjo reported that Joseph lured the young girl to his room and committed the act of defilement. The girl’s parents alerted the police and Joseph was eventually arrested. Osibanjo stated that the offense was in violation of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
