The Los Angeles Police Department is reportedly investigating the elevator footage of Quavo and Saweetie that was recently made public following the couple’s split.
The footage in question, released earlier this week, stems from 2020 and appears to show Saweetie swinging at Quavo. From there, the then-couple appears to struggle for an orange Call of Duty case before Saweetie is pulled to the floor of the elevator. The minute-and-a-half-long clip was taken at an apartment building in North Hollywood where Saweetie was renting at the time.
In a new report from TMZ, who also originally shared the video, law enforcement sources are said to have confirmed that LAPD detectives have watched the video. Now, the department reportedly wants to meet with both Quavo and Saweetie, with the publication’s sources stating the situation “could be considered an instance of domestic violence” in which “both parties are in the wrong.”
Police are said in Thursday’s report to be aiming to figure out what happened prior to and immediately after what’s seen in the elevator footage. From there, per the report, any potential case would be handed off to the city attorney.
In March, Saweetie confirmed on Twitter that she and Quavo had called off their relationship.
“I’ve endured too much betrayal and hurt behind the scenes for a false narrative to be circulating that degrades my character,” she said at the time. Shortly after Saweetie’s announcement, Quavo also addressed the split.
“I had love for you and disappointed you did all that,” he said. “You are not the woman I thought you were. I wish you nothing but the best.”
