In an effort to alleviate potential traffic gridlock during the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir, Sallah celebration, the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing has decided to temporarily halt construction work on the ongoing reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Engr. (Mrs) Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, made the announcement in a statement released on Monday. The decision to suspend the construction activities was prompted by several factors, including the recent heavy traffic congestion along the Lagos Shagamu route, unfavorable weather conditions, and the advice of the dedicated traffic management team assigned to handle traffic-related issues on the project.
According to the statement, the suspension of construction work on this critical and heavily utilized highway will take effect from Tuesday, June 27 to Sunday, July 2, 2023. The aim is to ensure smooth travel for commuters during the Eid holiday period and minimize the inconvenience caused by traffic congestion during this significant period.
Travellers are urged to cooperate with the Traffic Management Team deployed on the highway to effectively manage traffic flow. By adhering to the instructions and guidance provided by the team, road users can contribute to a more seamless and hassle-free journey.
