In a statement released on Thursday, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, congratulated Muslims across Nigeria, particularly those residing in Lagos State, on the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. The governor urged Muslims to use the opportunity presented by the holy month to pray for peace in Lagos and Nigeria as a whole.
According to Mr. Sanwo-Olu, the Ramadan period is a time to exhibit the best virtues taught by Islam. He implored Muslims, Christians, and followers of other religions to embrace love, tolerance, empathy, compassion, and peaceful coexistence during this month of fasting, which coincides with the Church Lenten fasting season.
Furthermore, the governor prayed that Almighty Allah would grant Nigerians good health and strength to observe the fasting and other acts of worship associated with the holy month.
He encouraged people of all religions to use this period to reflect on their lives, cleanse their hearts, and enrich their souls with virtues. He urged them to dedicate themselves to the good of humanity and the development of Lagos State and Nigeria.
The governor also called on people to commit themselves, Lagos State, and Nigeria to serious prayers for peace, development, and growth as the country prepares for the May 29 handing-over ceremony at the federal and state levels. He emphasized the need for peaceful coexistence among all ethnic and religious groups in Lagos State.
