This exciting news was revealed by the Managing Director of LAMATA, Abimbola Akinajo, during a statement given at the agency’s recent business/investor forum.

The blue line rail project, inaugurated by former President Muhammadu Buhari on January 24, 2023, marks a significant milestone for Lagos.

Prior to the inauguration, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had successfully launched a test run of the project, showcasing its potential to revolutionize transportation in the city. The blue line is designed to connect Mile 2 on the mainland to Marina on the island, spanning key areas of the metropolis.

Akinajo revealed that the ongoing test run activities for the blue line rail system would soon be concluded, paving the way for full-scale passenger operations. “I am happy to inform you that we are rounding off all testing processes for the commencement of full passenger operation in August this year. Details of the operations will be announced soon,” he declared confidently.

This eagerly awaited development will undoubtedly bring immense relief to millions of commuters in Lagos, who have long grappled with traffic congestion and limited transportation options.

Furthermore, Akinajo also touched upon another major project nearing completion—the first phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) red line.

This ambitious undertaking, which extends from Agbado to Oyingbo, is expected to undergo testing and commence passenger operations in August 2023, coinciding with the blue line’s launch.

The LRMT red line project, once fully operational, will significantly alleviate transportation challenges along its route, further enhancing the overall public transportation system in Lagos.

The introduction of these rail projects will undoubtedly improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and stimulate economic growth across various sectors of the city.
