Kylian Mbappe has been ruled out of PSG’s Champions League clash with Atalanta. Neymar and Edinson Cavani will have to lead the attack for Paris-Saint-Germain. French champions Paris-Saint-Germain have been hit with a big blow as star striker Kylian Mbappe has been ruled out of the Champions League quarterfinal against Atalanta.
The France international suffered an injury in Paris-Saint-Germain’s victory over Saint-Etienne in the Coupe de France final. According to the report on Sky Sports, the World Cup winner will be out of action for three weeks in which the Frenchman will miss the tough battle against Atalanta. Paris-Saint-Germain and Atalanta will be meeting on August 12 in Lisbon in the Champions League quarterfinal clash and this will be the first time they will clash in the last eight. The semifinals will come up six days later in which Paris-Saint-Germain will hope that they qualify for the last four. But even if they should progress to the semifinal, the chances of Kylian Mbappe playing are slim considering the fact that he might not be fit yet. Paris-Saint-Germain will now be putting their trust in Brazilian star Neymar in their quest to fight for the Champions League title this season.
Neymar was bought from Barcelona for him to help the club win Champions League title, but he has not been successful for the past two seasons. His former side Barcelona are still in the Champions League and they are also aiming to win the title after losing Spanish La Liga title to Real Madrid.
The France international has been superb for Paris-Saint-Germain since he joined the French champions from Monaco and has become target for many sides in Europe. Before football was suspended in Europe, Real Madrid came close to seal the signature of Kylian Mbappe from Paris-Saint-Germain, but nothing was agreed on later. At the age of 21, Kylian Mbappe has already won the World Cup after his success with France at the 2018 edition where they beat Croatia. He netted 29 goals in 32 games for Paris-Saint-Germain in the 2019/20 season that was recently cancelled.
