Kogi State Government Condemns Explosion at Local Government Secretariat Office

The administrative office of Okehi local government area in Kogi State, Nigeria, was hit by an explosion, which was confirmed by the Kogi State police command. The Kogi State Government condemned the attack and has charged security agencies with finding the perpetrators.

The explosion was allegedly caused by unknown gunmen who planted an explosive device in the Secretariat’s administrative block on Monday evening. On Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, assured the public that the police are on top of the situation and have deployed officers to assess the extent of the damages.

Preliminary findings have revealed that no casualties were recorded due to proactive measures anchored on the state’s security architecture. Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications in the state, stated that the government is taking measures to ensure the safety of the people before, during, and after the elections. Fanwo called on residents of Okehi Local Government Area and the entire Kogi Central Senatorial District to remain calm and urged parents to guide their wards against being used as political thugs in the forthcoming elections. The government promised to deal decisively with political thuggery.

In a statement, the government condemned the attack and called it an act of cowardice that will not compromise the peace and security enjoyed in Kogi State. The statement assured the people that the government is taking immediate action to ensure their safety and that the security agencies are working to identify the perpetrators. The government also urged the people to go about their normal businesses and guaranteed that Kogi State will continue to be the safest state in Nigeria.
