Katsina Anti-Banditry Protest: Protesters burn Buhari, Masari billboard

Some protesters in Yantumaki town, Damusa Local Government Area of Katsina State, on Tuesday burnt down a campaign billboard of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with the pictures of the President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Aminu Masari.

The burnt billboard was situated along the highway leading to the town.

The protesters were enraged by the level of insecurity in Yantumaki town and neighbouring communities.

The state government had entered a peace agreement with the gunmen. But despite the accord, communities in Katsina are still being attacked and residents killed.

On June 1, bandits shot dead 60-year-old Abu Atiku, district head of Yantumaki.

The gunmen also attacked some communities in Batsari LGA of the state, and killed the council’s APC chairman.

The protesters, were said to have moved from one end of the town to the other, chanting anti-government songs in Hausa and demanding improved security of lives and property.

Particularly, they we’re angered by the kidnap of a health worker, Alhaji Mansir Yusuf, and his daughter by bandits around 1a.m on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Sanusi Buba, has ordered the Area Commander for Dutsinma, Aminu Dayi to relocate to Yantumaki to ensure quick return to normalcy.
