Kaduna communities have recorded two-straight years power supply with no interruption making it the first of its kind in the history of Nigeria.
The communities identified as Gnami and Pakau communities have enjoyed uninterrupted power supply of the 90-kilowatt Solar PV off-grid system installed in the areas.
It is disclosed that the villages were far from the reach of the national power grid thus necessitating the use of solar as its source of power to them.
This was disclosed on Tuesday by the ministry’s acting Director, Renewable Energy, Edozien who was represented by Farauk Yabo.
Edozien made this known when delegates from the Economic Community of West African States visited the two communities to mark the end of the regional training workshop on the improvement of policy and regulatory framework for clean energy mini-grids.
According to the source, the power which was generated using solar powered systems from renewable energy project of the ministry provides access to electricity for rural dwellers.
However, it is pointed out that the project was in line with the administration’s promise of electricity to rural areas that might not be in close distance to the power supply.
Meanwhile, the mini-grid is said to have generated 40KW solar PV mini-grid of which Gnami village consisted of power generation and distribution systems, house installation systems, and street lights and metering systems while on the other hand Pakau community was provided with power to about 300 households from 50KW solar PV renewable energy micro utility where Gnami had only 100 households.
