K1 De Ultimate Pleads with President Tinubu for the Release of Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu
Fuji Musician K1 De Ultimate Appeals to President Tinubu for Pardon of Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu

In a heartfelt plea to President Bola Tinubu, renowned Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has urged for the pardon of Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho. Ayinde further requested the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021.

The call for pardon comes after Sunday Igboho’s arrest by Interpol at Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, Benin Republic in July 2021, subsequent to his escape from Nigeria. Prior to his arrest, Igboho had been declared wanted by the DSS on charges of alleged weapons stockpiling at his residence.

Following his detention in a prison in Benin Republic, Igboho was released in March 2022 to receive medical attention, with the condition that he would remain within the West African country’s borders. Since his release, he has remained confined to Cotonou.

During a recent live performance, K1 De Ultimate passionately appealed to President Tinubu for peace in the country, emphasizing the need for Igboho’s pardon. The musician urged Tinubu to reconcile all interests, highlighting the importance of Nigeria’s unity.

“Asiwaju, please forgive anyone who has offended you, regardless of their tribe—Yoruba, Igbo, or Hausa—we need to embrace one another,” K1 De Ultimate expressed. He continued, “Akanbi, please let Sunday Igboho come back home; he is one of our own. ‘Omo eni o sedi bebere, ka fi ileke si idi omo elomi’ (meaning, ‘One cannot say because one’s daughter has ample buttocks, he would put waist beads on another man’s daughter’).”

Referring to Nnamdi Kanu, the Fuji musician also emphasized the importance of peaceful dialogue among Igbo leaders and other agitators from various regions. Singing, “Likewise other agitators from various regions, call their leaders to a roundtable discussion. I know it is what you can do, and you can do it.”

The appeal from K1 De Ultimate adds to the growing voices calling for reconciliation and peaceful resolutions for the detained agitators. As Nigerians await President Tinubu’s response, the country remains in anticipation of potential developments in the cases of Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu.
