Kemi Olunloyo raises alarm over poor hygiene at Mega Chicken restaurant

Controversial journalist Kemi Olunloyo has slammed the management of Mega Chicken restaurants over alleged poor hygiene and poor quality of food.

The investigative journalist has threatened to go on a social media war with the fast-food company after they denied her claims.

In a series of posts she reportedly made on social media, Kemi claimed she spotted one of the restaurant’s chefs talking into a dish without wearing a face mask.

She also said that the food outlet uses Ajinomoto spices to sweeten their food; something she says is dangerous to health.

Her words:

FOOD POISONING: DO NOT EAT AT MEGA CHICKEN Lekki/Ajah @megachickenofficial
I’m recommending my fans NEVER to eat there. There is a health coverup and you will be prone to #COVID19. I spotted a cook in the buffet line up without a mask talking and sniffling with droplets going into the food. The cashiers were trying to hide the management and the management were trying to hide their names. There is always a corporate office. Watch my video coming up. I am cracking down on restaurants with unsafe health practices. My first time there was last week. I also ate an egg fried rice that was sour. The egg was either contaminated or the rice stayed out too long. NAFDAC should shut that branch down and I’m filing a complaint. I’m a star Google reviewer and want to know your experience there.

The spices that @megachicken_NG use in their food is reportedly Ajinomoto which is a combination of MSG and sugarcane. Many are complaining about the level of sweeteners in the food. No wonder Nigerians have high levels of diabetes. @NafdacAgency must look into this #Kemitalks”

Mega Chicken responded to Kemi’s claims in a lengthy statement which reads:

The attention of the management of Mega Chicken Restaurants Limited has been invited to a deliberately false and mischief-laden broadcast on various platforms on social media by a certain private individual seeking to cast a slur on the quality of the food and other products of Mega Chicken Restaurants Limited particularly as relates to standard industry practice at our Lekki/Ajah outlet.

It is imperative that we reiterate that we at Mega Chicken Restaurants Limited have always maintained the highest standard of hygiene and other health practices as we ensure that our food and other products are prepared and presented, bearing in mind the need to strictly keep to industry requirements.

These include, but are not limited to, ensuring that all staff are fully masked, that meals are prepared and served at the right temperature and generally maintaining a safe, sanitary and socially-distanced environment.

In this regard therefore, we kindly urge our esteemed customers to disregard the yellow brand of journalism as manifested in the said publication as the same is manifestly malicious and done in utmost bad taste.
