In the wake of Graham Potter’s dismissal as the manager of Chelsea Football Club, former Chelsea captain John Terry has expressed his willingness to return to coaching and fill the vacancy at Stamford Bridge.
Terry, who retired from playing professional football in 2018, has been working as a coach in Chelsea’s youth academy. He had a brief stint as an assistant coach at Aston Villa before leaving the club in 2021.
Terry’s extensive experience as a player and a coach, coupled with his knowledge of Chelsea’s football culture, make him a strong candidate for the head coaching role. However, he faces competition from other top candidates like Julian Nagelsmann, Lucian Spalletti, and Mauricio Pochettino.
Speaking about his interest in the Chelsea job, Terry said, “The only job I’d come out of my kind of retirement for would be the Chelsea job – to be involved in some capacity with a first-team role. I love my role at the minute, working with the younger players. Because I’ve been through that process as a kid myself, I’m passing on my knowledge to them, having loads of conversations with them.”
Terry’s time at Chelsea was nothing short of legendary. He spent 19 years at the club, making 717 appearances and winning 17 major trophies. His trophy haul includes five Premier League titles, five FA Cups, three League Cups, a Europa League, a Champions League, and two Community Shields. Terry is widely regarded as one of Chelsea’s greatest players of all time, and his return to the club as a coach would be a huge boost for the team and its fans.
