IPPIS: No Pay, No Work – ASUU TO FG
Senate President, Ahmad Lawan

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is set to meet with the leadership of the National Assembly today as part of its stand against the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) while declaring that its members will not work if they are not paid salaries.

A source within the nation’s parliament revealed that the meeting will take place behind closed doors on Monday, October 28, 2019.

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, had last week said no government agency must resist the payment system but ASUU has maintained its position against it, denying claims of supporting corruption.

The ASUU National President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, also confirmed the meeting but didn’t reveal details of what would be brought before the Senate President.

President Muhammadu Buhari had directed that those who refused to be part of the IPPIS would not be paid salaries and it is hoped that the meeting between ASUU and the National Assembly would result in a positive outcome as the union may go on strike as a final resort.
