Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has inaugurated the Interim Transition Committee chairmen for the 17 local government areas of the state. The ceremony took place at the Government House in Jos and was represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Josephine Piyo. The governor emphasized that this exercise was crucial to prevent any administrative gaps in his administration.
The decision to suspend all democratic structures in the 17 Local Government Areas was made on June 1, following recommendations from the Plateau House of Assembly (PLHA). Governor Mutfwang cited the chairmen’s failure to produce financial transaction documents despite multiple attempts to obtain them, leading to the suspension. The state government carefully reviewed the recommendations and concluded that the suspension was necessary to conduct a thorough and efficient investigation into the matter.
Governor Mutfwang urged the transition chairmen to cooperate fully with the PLHA and provide all the necessary documents for the investigation. He emphasized that his administration would not tolerate any form of indiscipline and reminded them that their role was to stabilize the local government councils, not exploit them for personal gain. Furthermore, he stressed that this was a transitional administration that could be replaced at any time by the government.
In response, the Chairman of Wase local government, Hamisu Anani, assured the governor that they would adhere to the rules and regulations governing local government affairs and work diligently for the progress of the state.
The interim chairmen for the respective local government areas are as follows: Mr. Markus Hussaini for Jos East, Mr. Sati Shuwa for Riyom, Mr. Peter VwangDung for Jos South, Mr. Fidelis Adara for Bassa, Mr. Danjuma Guda for Barkin Ladi, Mr. Istifanus John for Jos North, Mr. Markus Artu for Mangu, and Mr. Monday Kassa for Bokkos.
