Senator Sani Musa, says the National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno should resign over the rising insecurity in the country.
The senator who represents Niger East in the National Assembly stated this during an interview on Channels TV.
Musa criticized the NSA for not being the first to inform President Muhammadu Buhari of the threat by terrorists to kidnap him.
Last weekend, a video clip wherein terrorists threatened to abduct Buhari and Nasir el-Rufai, Kaduna state governor, surfaced on social media.
Speaking on the development on Wednesday el-Rufai had said the president was unaware of the threat before he discussed the matter with him.
According to the senator, the NSA ought to be removed for failing to inform the president of the threat to his safety.
He claimed that without access to NSA intelligence reports, President Buhari will find it challenging to take action on security-related matters.
The senator declared that “that single act is enough for the NSA to be kicked out,” as his state is currently under heavy bandit attack.
“If it is true, going by the saying of Governor el-Rufai that the president was not aware, that singular act is enough for the NSA to be booted out.
“A country is bleeding and you will tell me that, as the helmsman to strategize how our security should be functioning, you are not aware of this and the president cannot be informed. It is self-indicting.
“We have to call a spade a spade. If I was the national security adviser in this country I would tender my resignation because I have failed. When they are creating cells, you don’t wait until when you are attacked then you will act.
“This intelligence is shared at a stage where the culprits have not concluded their motives and plans and you will neutralize them.
“So for me, I believe that we need to re-strategize and look at our demographic. If you go to Niger state, today, you will see a lot of IDPs, people have left their villages” he added.
