Ahead of the Abuja municipal area council (AMAC) elections scheduled for 12th of February 2022, the chairmanship candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Hon Michael Odoh has promised to cut down AMAC taxes and tenement rate fees by 50%.

Odoh stated this while addressing his supporters during the flagging off of “YPP AMAC 2022 Door-to-Door campaign” at Kabusa Ward of the area council on Wednesday. He noted that he will not just reduce the tax, but the over 1500 youths scattered along Abuja municipal area council roads acting as tax and enforcement agents in the name of AMAC will be withdrawn and gainfully engaged with better jobs at the council.

Speaking further, he emphasized that over 40% of revenue generated by AMAC ends up in the pocket of individuals, and revealed that if elected, he is poised to deploy digital revenue collection mechanisms in other to ensure that all revenues come through a central system.

In the area of job creation, Odoh said that if elected, his administration will establish massive jobs through Lite and food industries under the window of Private Public partnership. This he noted will enable the council raise enough capital to drive massive community development and enhancement, job creation for youths and empowerment for women and youths.

On the development of the communities in AMAC, Hon Michael noted that he will set a reinvestment mechanism that will ensure that 40% of every tax generated from every market/ community within the area council is reinvested back to that market/ community. By so doing, he believes communities that lack basic amenities will get them and will ensure that people benefit properly from the tax they’re paying.

Recall that on Wednesday, INEC released the final list of candidates of political parties vying for chairmanship and councillors in the forthcoming election with AMAC having a total of 14 chairmanship aspirants comprising of 13 male aspirants and one female aspirant.
