Former Nigerian Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has denied being Yoruba, saying that his language is “Anago”.
The politician and lawyer disclosed the information on Twitter, revealing that “Yoruba” given to them by the Fulani and is derived from the word “Yariba”, meaning ‘shady and unreliable’. He further advised that names given to us by historical adversaries shouldn’t be accepted by us.
See his post below:
….I am not a "Yariba" or "Yoruba" but an "Omo Karo Jire" or an "Oduduwan" and my lanuage is not "Yoruba" but "Anago". We are what we call ourselves. We are not "shady and uneliable"(Yariba) and we must not accept names that are given to us by our historical adversaries…
