In a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM, Lagos, popular singer, Simi, shared the heartwarming story of how her now-husband, fellow singer Adekunle Gold, won her over during the early days of their careers.
Simi opened up about Adekunle Gold’s unwavering determination to capture her attention, which eventually led to their blossoming romance.
According to the talented singer, Adekunle Gold, affectionately known as AG Baby, had been consistently sending her messages via Facebook for quite some time. However, she remained oblivious to his advances until they eventually started dating.
Recalling their first encounter, Simi revealed that they met at one of her concerts. Adekunle Gold’s genuine kindness and charming personality left a lasting impression on her. It was this “niceness” that made her consider dating him months later.
“In the gospel community, I was pretty well known. And he [Adekunle Gold] had heard my album at that time as well,” Simi explained during the interview.
She continued, “He has been reaching out to me on Facebook, DMing me on Facebook. But I didn’t see those DMs until we started dating. I don’t remember how we eventually linked up again. I had a show at Bogobiri, and he turned up. He was very slim at that time with white BYC and jeans. He came to see me perform. I was like, ‘Oh hey!’ He was like, ‘Oh! I’m such a fan.’ And I was like, ‘Okay!”
“We became friends, and later that year, he asked me out. I mean, as much as I was sounding like all that, I still didn’t really have anything. He was a nice guy, and I was like, ‘Okay, I don’t mind a nice guy “
The couple dated for an impressive five years before finally tying the knot in 2019. Their love story, filled with persistence, friendship, and genuine connection, has captured the hearts of fans and admirers alike
