Jacob Alonge, a 52-year-old herbalist, has been sentenced to 21 years in jail by a Magistrate Court in Benin, Edo State. The sentence comes without the option of fine.
The ageing herbalist, who pleaded guilty to the charges against him, had been raping his 17-year-old daughter named Gift, impregnating her in the process.
Alonge had arranged for an abortion for her but luck ran out on him when she became pregnant a second time and the public got wind of it.
Unfortunately, the pregnant teenager died in an accident along Benin-Auchi highway while travelling from Ososo to Benin, en route to the court.
