It was reported that the Kano government imposed a dawn-to-dusk curfew to avoid a breakdown of law and order following the tension generated from the collation of results of the governorship and state Assembly elections.

Videos that surfaced online showed the residents in large numbers jubilating the emergence of Abba, despite the imposed curfew.

TalkGlitz had reported that the INEC Returning Officer in the state, Professor Ahmed Ibrahim, declared Yusuf Abba the winner having secured 1,019,602 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nasiru Gawuna of All Progressives Congress, who polled 890,705 votes.
