Guaranty Trust Bank, one of Nigeria’s commercial banks, has denied allegations that it provided new notes of N500 million naira to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, one of the presidential candidates in the recently concluded election.

The bank refuted the claims made by a Twitter user (@ifygold21), who alleged that the bank had given the sum to the presidential candidate on the eve of the election, following an order from a high-ranking government official.

In response to the claims, the bank stated that the allegations are false and designed to tarnish the bank’s image and that of its officers. The bank clarified that Miriam Olusanya is the current Managing Director of the Bank, and not Segun Agbaje, as alleged in the post.

The bank conducted preliminary investigations and found that the post was made using a faceless bot account operated by unscrupulous persons with malicious intent. The bank has reported the fake account to Twitter and all concerned parties for the identification of the account owner and subsequent legal action.

The bank reiterated its commitment to being a responsible, non-partisan corporate citizen with strict adherence to the highest standards of global best practices and sound corporate governance in all aspects of its business operations. The bank urged its customers and the public to disregard the unsubstantiated claims made in the post. The bank remains available to everyone and supports a diverse customer base with varied business interests in communities across the country.
