The Ondo State House of Assembly has received an official letter from Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, confirming his request for a 21-day medical leave to undergo treatment abroad. The leave is scheduled to commence on June 7 and extend until July 6, according to a statement by the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Olamide Oladiji.
In the statement released on Tuesday, Speaker Oladiji clarified that the extension of the leave until July 6 was due to the occurrence of public holidays during the requested period. Notably, the Democracy Day on June 12 and the Eid el Kabir celebration on June 28 and June 29 were taken into account while determining the revised duration of the governor’s absence.
Governor Akeredolu expressed in his letter that during his medical leave, his deputy, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, would assume the role of acting governor. This arrangement ensures the smooth functioning of the state administration and continuity of governance in the governor’s absence.
Describing Governor Akeredolu as a proponent of peace and advocate for the rule of law, Speaker Oladiji conveyed his well-wishes for the governor’s swift recovery and a pleasant vacation during his time away.
The governor’s request for medical leave comes as a surprise to many, as he has been actively engaged in the affairs of the state, championing developmental projects and implementing policies geared towards the growth and prosperity of Ondo State. However, the nature of his medical condition and the specific location for his treatment were not disclosed in the statement.
