Former Imo State Governor Urges Federal Intervention to Stop Underreported Killings
Urgent Plea for Peace: Okorocha Reveals Hidden Crisis of Killings in Imo State

Former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, has raised concerns about the underreported killings in Imo state. Speaking to journalists in Owerri on Monday, Okorocha recounted a distressing incident involving a security convoy that was attacked in the Okigwe council area while returning to Enugu state, resulting in the tragic death of a police officer.

Expressing gratitude for his own survival, Okorocha extended his condolences to the family of the deceased and the people of Enugu state. He also expressed his intention to visit the bereaved family and thanked the Governor of Enugu for arranging the convoy that ensured his safe return from Enugu to attend Ihedioha’s mother’s burial in Spibat, Owerri.

Drawing attention to the gravity of the situation, Okorocha stated, “The killings in Imo are underreported. Unfortunately, we have not conveyed this information to the federal government. I wanted to bring it to their attention so that appropriate action can be taken. The Ohaji/Egbema local government area has become a hotbed, and many residents have been forced to abandon their homes. I appeal to President Bola Tinubu to come to our aid. Every day, lives are being lost. Although I am unaware of the perpetrators’ identities, I implore them to choose the path of peace.”

Reflecting on his tenure as Imo State Governor, Okorocha emphasized the importance of inclusive governance. “During my time as governor, I engaged everyone, including mechanics, motorcycle riders, and market traders. The best system of government is one that allows people to govern themselves,” he asserted.

In conclusion, Okorocha stressed the urgency of restoring peace to the troubled region and called for the intervention of the federal government. He vehemently condemned the senseless killings and the beheading of individuals, asserting that such acts go against the cherished traditions of the people. Okorocha also disclosed his intention to write an open letter to Governor Uzodimma, urging him to convene a meeting with other governors to seek counsel on resolving the escalating crisis.

The former governor’s impassioned plea for peace in Imo state sheds light on the gravity of the situation and highlights the need for urgent intervention to prevent further loss of life and restore stability to the affected communities.
