The Nigerian students in Sudan had requested evacuation from the country due to ongoing hostilities between the Sudanese Army and the paramilitary group, Rapid Support Forces. In response, the Federal Government has stated that it is consulting on the matter.

According to a statement signed by Gabriel Odu for the Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) on Thursday, NiDCOM sais it is is working with the National Emergency Management Agency and the Nigerian mission in Sudan, as well as other relevant agencies, to facilitate the evacuation.

NiDCOM Chairman/CEO, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged all Nigerian students in Sudan, as well as Nigerians living in the country, to remain calm and vigilant.

The situation in Sudan remains tense, and the safety and security of Nigerian nationals in the country is a top priority for the government.

Nigeria has a large diaspora population, with many Nigerians living and studying abroad. The government has an obligation to ensure the safety and security of its citizens, regardless of where they are in the world.
