Femi Adesina says it's not Government's Responsibility to Create Jobs
Government Cannot Create Jobs, only Enable Environment – Adesina

In an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday, Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, stated that it is not the government’s responsibility to create jobs. Adesina emphasized that the government’s role is to create an enabling environment that allows the private sector to create jobs.

Regarding President Buhari’s promise to create three million jobs annually in 2015, Adesina clarified that the president did not give a specific figure for the number of jobs to be created. Rather, he presented the percentage of joblessness in the country. Adesina suggested that the figure of three million jobs may have come from other sources.

Adesina further explained that the government’s duty is to provide an environment that allows the private sector to thrive and create jobs. He noted that President Buhari has made significant achievements in various sectors, including oil and gas, infrastructure, legislative matters, and security.

Adesina also pointed out that most jobs in a country come from the private sector, and it is the private sector that creates jobs as long as the government provides an enabling environment. He emphasized that creating jobs is not the government’s primary responsibility, and all the government can do is to create the conditions for job creation.
