FCT Minister Wike Affirms Dedication to National Progress over Party Politics
Nyesom Wike Champions Governance Goals, Sets Aside Party Identity

In an exclusive interview aired on Channels Television, Mr. Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), boldly proclaimed his unyielding dedication to the role of governance and his resolute loyalty to the principles of fairness, equity, and justice. Wike, a prominent figure in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), asserted that his allegiance lies firmly with his ideals and the nation’s betterment, rather than mere party affiliation.

Addressing the question of his appointment within an administration led by the All Progressives Congress (APC), Wike, who had previously served as the Governor of Rivers State, clarified his motivation. He expressed that his acceptance of the FCT Ministerial position was rooted in his intention to bolster President Bola Tinubu’s administration and contribute to the advancement of the country, rather than being driven by partisan inclinations.

In his articulate words, Wike emphasized, “Governance transcends political party lines. A party is akin to a vehicle that facilitates your journey. I proudly identify as a steadfast member of the PDP, and I’ve consistently advocated for fairness, equity, and justice.”

He further conveyed his sense of purpose in working under President Tinubu, whom he regarded as a leader with the nation’s best interests at heart. Wike elucidated, “My commitment is not to a particular party, but to supporting a president who places trust in my abilities. I am here to serve and contribute to the nation’s progress. I owe no one an apology for my stance.”

As speculation lingered on the possibility of the PDP taking disciplinary action against him for his recent undertakings, Wike responded with an air of confidence. He questioned whether there existed a figure within the party capable of imposing such measures on him. Asserting his position, he challenged, “Who holds the authority to expel me? Respectfully, I have yet to encounter that individual. Such a scenario is inconceivable.”

Wike underscored his belief in his own authority and stature within the PDP, stating that he should be the one advocating for disciplinary action against those who breach the party’s constitution, particularly concerning the rotation of offices.

The FCT Minister’s candid remarks shed light on his unwavering commitment to his principles and his resolve to operate beyond the constraints of partisan politics. This sentiment, conveyed eloquently in the interview, reflects Wike’s dedication to the betterment of the nation and his intention to contribute constructively to its development, irrespective of his party affiliation.
