Fani-Kayode Suggests Rumors about Obasanjo's Ethnicity May be True

Femi Fani-Kayode, the former Minister of Aviation and Director of New Media Sub-committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, recently stated on his Twitter handle that former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo may not be a full-fledged Yoruba as rumours have suggested. He made this assertion in response to a statement by an elder statesman, Chief Emmanuel Iwanyanwu, who allegedly referred to Yoruba people as “rascals.”

Fani-Kayode expressed his disappointment with the former President’s silence over the comment made by Iwanyanwu. He stated that the Obasanjo he knew would never have tolerated such a statement and suggested that the rumour of the former President’s father being Igbo may well be true.

The former Aviation Minister added that no one could have gotten away with such a statement against any tribe in Nigeria in the presence of Obasanjo. He lamented that something must have gone wrong with the revered leader and one of the fathers of the nation, whom he once knew, loved, defended, and worked so hard for.

Fani-Kayode, however, refrained from responding to Iwanyanwu’s statement or any other derogatory remarks about the Yoruba people. He explained that he had a connection to the Igbo tribe as his four sons were half Igbo and that Iwanyanwu was his in-law.
