Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to social media influencer VeryDarkMan, demanding the retraction of alleged defamatory statements made against him and his father, Femi Falana, SAN.

The ultimatum was conveyed in a letter from Falana & Falana Chambers, the family’s legal firm, following claims made by VeryDarkMan in a September 25, 2024, Instagram post. The post alleged that Femi Falana and his son, Falz, were involved in a scheme to secure a presidential pardon for popular Nigerian crossdresser, Bobrisky, in exchange for N10,000,000.

The letter described these accusations as “vicious, wicked, and reckless,” noting that they were aimed at damaging Femi Falana’s esteemed reputation. It categorically denied any communication between Mr. Falana and Bobrisky, let alone any involvement in attempting to obtain a presidential pardon.

According to the Chambers, the statements were not only false and misleading but also defamatory, with the potential to misrepresent the senior Falana’s long-standing fight against injustice and corruption. The allegations, which suggested that Falana’s advocacy was motivated by personal financial gain, were said to violate the Nigerian Legal Practitioner Rules of Professional Conduct.

The Chambers stressed that although VeryDarkMan has the right to freedom of expression under Nigeria’s Constitution, he is responsible for ensuring that any public statements are factual. They demanded an immediate retraction and a public apology across all platforms where the defamatory claims were published.

If VeryDarkMan fails to comply within 24 hours, the Chambers warned that legal action would be taken, including claims for monetary damages.

The letter ended with a strong recommendation for the influencer to address the matter promptly to avoid further legal consequences.
