Lagos Police Command Busts Fake Inspector Operating Illegally

Lagos, Nigeria – In a significant breakthrough, the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended an individual who had been falsely parading himself as a police inspector within the jurisdiction. The suspect’s arrest was confirmed by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Lagos State Police Command, during a press briefing on Tuesday.

According to Hundeyin, the imposter had been engaging in commercial transportation activities using an unregistered motorcycle in the bustling Ikorodu area of Lagos. Alerted by suspicions surrounding the suspect’s credentials, a patrol team on duty decided to question his identity on Sunday evening at approximately 10:22 p.m.

“The suspect shamelessly assumed the role of a police inspector, duping unsuspecting individuals in the process,” stated Hundeyin. “However, further investigations revealed that the suspect had no affiliation with any legitimate police formation. Additionally, the identity card found in his possession was deemed counterfeit.”

Following his apprehension, the suspect was taken into police custody, while his motorcycle was impounded and will subsequently be handed over to the Taskforce for further evaluation. The police intend to charge the imposter with the crime of impersonation in due course, ensuring that justice is served.

Impersonation of law enforcement officers is a serious offense that threatens the integrity of the police force and undermines public trust. The Lagos State Police Command remains committed to upholding the rule of law and maintaining the safety and security of all residents. The swift action taken to apprehend this individual highlights the command’s dedication to preserving the professionalism and integrity of the Nigerian Police Force.

As investigations continue, the command encourages members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station or via the designated emergency hotlines.

The arrest of this fake police inspector serves as a stern warning to other would-be imposters, affirming that the long arm of the law will not hesitate to bring them to justice. The Lagos State Police Command continues its tireless efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the citizens it serves.
