Facebook Planning To Hide ‘Like’ Count On Posts

Reports indicate that Facebook is considering a test where users will be given an option of publicly hiding the ‘like’ count on their posts.

Facebook confirmed the news but said that the test hasn’t started running yet.

Jane Manchun Wong, an App researcher, found the code inside Facebook’s android app that hides the exact number of likes on a post from everyone but the one who originally posted it.

The company said that the reason behind the move is to stop users from feeling pressured about the reach of their posts and impressions.

This comes on the heels of a disclosure that Instagram has expanded the feature to six more countries, where a post’s author can see the total like but everyone else can’t.

Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, who had spoken during a conference in California, said they wanted users to focus more on connecting with others than being worried about the number of likes they got.

We want people to worry a little less about how many likes they’re getting on Instagram and spend a bit more time connecting with the people that they care about.Adam Mosseri – timesnownews.com
