Former WWE star and Hollywood actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has reportedly acquired Vince McMahon’s XFL league for $15 million.

TMZ reports that the former wrestler teamed up with an investment group to make the acquisition following the league’s filing for bankruptcy.

The XFL league was supposed to be auctioned off to the highest bidder on Monday, August 3, 2020, but Dwayne Johnson and his partners (Danny Garcia, his business partner, and ex-wife) and some individuals at Redbird Capital swooped in and bought it during the weekend before it hit the auction block.

According to the report, Johnson and Garcia are 50/50 partners in the deal, and issuing a statement on the acquisition, the actor said:

The acquisition of the XFL with my talented partners, Dany Garcia and Gerry Cardinale, is an investment for me that’s rooted deeply in two things – my passion for the game and my desire to always take care of the fans. With pride and gratitude for all that I’ve built with my own two hands, I plan to apply these callouses to the XFL, and look forward to creating something special for the players, fans, and everyone involved for the love of football.”

Dwayne Johnson’s acquisition of the league means that it will be relaunched, but so far, no timetable has been set.
