DSS Blocks Medical Team from Treating IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu, Sparks Concern
Controversy Erupts as DSS Bars Medical Team from Assisting IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu

In a concerning turn of events, Aloy Ejimakor, the Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), revealed that the Department of State Services (DSS) prevented medical professionals from attending to his client. The incident took place at the DSS headquarters in Abuja, as reported by Vanguard.

Yesterday, Kanu’s medical team arrived at the DSS facility with the intention of providing necessary medical care to the IPOB leader, who has been in the custody of the security agency. However, hours later, Kanu’s brother voiced his disappointment, alleging that the self-determination group’s leader was denied access to his doctors. The medical team was abruptly asked to leave the premises on Tuesday.

Confirming the distressing development, Aloy Ejimakor took to Twitter on Wednesday to express his concern and condemn the denial of medical attention to Nnamdi Kanu. In his tweet, he wrote, “After going through so much trouble to advance the cause of arranging proper medical care for Onyendu #MNK, the DSS made sure it didn’t happen. This will not stand. Onyendu must get the proper medical care that he needs from physicians of his own choice.”

The prevention of Kanu’s medical team from attending to him raises questions about the treatment and welfare of the IPOB leader during his detention. Supporters of the secessionist movement, which seeks self-determination for the region of Biafra in southeastern Nigeria, have expressed deep concern over the matter.

Nnamdi Kanu’s case has garnered significant attention both domestically and internationally, with calls for his fair treatment and respect for his fundamental human rights. The denial of medical care has only intensified the growing concerns surrounding his well-being and due process.

As the situation unfolds, advocates for Kanu’s cause are expected to increase their pressure on the Nigerian authorities, urging them to allow independent medical professionals of Kanu’s choice to evaluate and treat him. The objective is to ensure that he receives the necessary medical attention he requires.
