Doctor Removes 526 Abnormal Teeth From 7-year-old Boy

A 7-year-old boy who was admitted in July as a result of pain and swelling near his molars and right jaw was found to have 526 teeth in his mouth.

After running a scan and conducting an x-ray on the boy, the doctors found an embedded sac in his lower jaw filled with abnormal teeth.

The doctors then proceeded to remove the sac from his mouth. The team led by Dr. Prathiba Ramani (Head of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at Saveetha Dental College in India) said it took 4 hours to complete the procedure. After the successful completion, they discovered hundreds of teeth.

The boy who was released from the hospital 3 days after the surgery is expected to recover fully.

Dr. Ramani wasn’t sure about what could have caused the medical phenomenon and hinted that it may have been passed on from the genes or caused by radiation.
