DJ Envy Walks Out Of Desus & Mero Breakfast Club Interview; Ebro Says It Was Staged

Early Thursday morning, March 15, Power 105’s The Breakfast Club welcomed comedic duo and hosts of Viceland’s Desus and Mero show, Desus Nice and The Kid Mero onto the station for an exclusive interview. Things quickly got dicey when Breakfast Club host, DJ Envy, called out the duo for previously ridiculing him and his wife during their appearance on the daytime show The Real.

The interview began on a contentious note, as Envy introduced Desus and Mero as “Dickhead and P—y.” Then, the New York DJ delved into why he had issues with the former podcasters. “You owe my wife an apology.” Dumbfounded by Envy’s statement, the tandem asked why they needed to do so. Envy explained how during a recent episode of Desus and Mero, they mocked him and his wife, Gia, during their appearance on The Real, implying that she was only with him for his money. “[You] insinuated that she was there for the check,” he said.

Before airing the segment, Envy noted that him and his wife have been together since he was 15 years old, and how she was once the breadwinner in their relationship. “So to insinuate that she was there for a check, or she’s good with Envy’s check, is a disrespect to me and her,” he said. Then, Envy proceeded to play the clip from the episode of Desus and Mero and highlighted Mero’s statement, which he deemed rude and distasteful. Though they offered an apology to him and his wife, that wasn’t enough to satisfy Envy, who later walked out the interview.

Hot 97 morning host, Ebro Darden, chimed in on Twitter and suggested that the interview was a marketing ploy by Power 105 to boost their views. “Envy walked off his own show? Amazing marketing! The Viceland x iHeart promo machine working overtime,” tweeted Darden. “Desus & Mero nicest people too!!” He later continued, “It was staged when u walked off here too…. U knew it would get promo.”

Baffled by his claims, Envy responded on Twitter, debunking Darden’s theory. “Smh… You of all people know me… You was there the last time some 1 said something crazy about my family… And @JoeBudden we spoke about it.. we don’t need the marketing,” he said.
